Scooter category up to 50 cm3 cylinder capacity

What is Category AM?

An AM category two-wheeled vehicle whose design speed does not exceed 45 km/h (except for two-wheeled vehicles whose design speed does not exceed 25 km/h), with an engine cylinder capacity not greater than 50 cm3, or with a maximum continuous rated power not exceeding 4 kW for electrically propelled motors.

Application requirements

  • Valid identity card and address card.
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Minimum age: 13 years 6 months.
  • A person who obtains an AM licence before reaching 16 years of age may not drive abroad until turning 16.
Which vehicles are you permitted to ride?

Mopeds (two-wheeled mopeds — category L1e, or three-wheeled mopeds — category L2e) with a maximum design speed of 45 km/h (except those whose maximum design speed is less than or equal to 25 km/h), and having the following characteristics:

a) for two-wheeled types, the engine:

  • has a cylinder capacity not exceeding 50 cm3 for internal combustion engines, or
  • has a maximum continuous rated power not exceeding 4 kW for electric motors;

b) for three-wheeled types, the engine:

  • has a cylinder capacity not exceeding 50 cm3 for spark-ignition engines,
  • has a maximum net power not exceeding 4 kW for other internal combustion engines, or
  • has a maximum continuous rated power not exceeding 4 kW for electric motors;

Light four-wheeled motor vehicles (quadricycles / “moped cars”) (category L6e) with an unladen mass not exceeding 425 kg (excluding the mass of batteries in the case of electric vehicles whose maximum design speed does not exceed 45 km/h), and which meet:

  • cylinder capacity not exceeding 50 cm3 for spark-ignition engines;
  • a maximum net power not exceeding 6 kW for other internal combustion engines, or a maximum continuous rated power not exceeding 6 kW for electric motors.

Theoretical course: 16 lessons (optional additional e-learning course)
Practical lessons: 4 + 6 lessons + 30 min traffic exam, required min 100 km

Available vehicle types

Érd: Malaguti F15 (scooter, automatic transmission)

Budapest: currently no practical training in AM category

Price of a category AM driving license

It is important to mention that the theoretical exam on a computer isn't available in English, only in Hungarian. If you want to take the theoretical exam in a foreign language in this category, you need to hire an official translation service, which has extra fees.
