Details of the continuing education
Those required to take retraining
The retraining program is open to
- anyone who wants to reduce their traffic demerit points (voluntary participants),
- as well as to those whose driving privileges are suspended and who wish to regain their licence (persons mandated to take retraining).
Registration and application
Applications for retraining can be submitted to the Transport Fitness and Examination Centre (Közlekedési Alkalmassági és Vizsgaközpont, KAV) in person, online or via Ügyfélkapu (the national e‑government portal).
At registration the applicant must bring/upload all documents that form the basis for their retraining obligation.
You can find the application links and further information on the website below.
Assessment (Feltárás)
The first step after applying for retraining is to attend the assessment.
The assessment consists of three parts:
- Completion of a theoretical exam required for safe driving (KRESZ exam).
- A practical driving test.
- A discussion with a psychologist about driving habits and behaviours related to the incident.
Which programme(s) a person must attend will be decided on the basis of the assessment results and the traffic incident(s) that gave rise to the retraining obligation.
Registration for a programme
After the assessment the applicant can sign up either for:
- the waiting list - when the minimum number required to start the programme has not yet been reached; in this case no definite programme date has been scheduled, or
- the programme directly - when the minimum number required to start has been reached; in this case the programme has a confirmed date.
Participants will be notified by e‑mail about the final programme details and information on how to pay the programme fee, so it is very important to provide an electronic contact address during registration and/or when applying, even if you register in person at a KAV customer service centre. In addition to e‑mail notifications, you may enquire by phone or in person if necessary. If the scheduled programme date is not suitable, the booking can be cancelled even after the fee has been paid, subject to the deadlines set out in the Examination Centre’s regulations.
You can enter the Future Driving Schools through the Examination Center, you cannot apply directly to us. The Examination Center assigns clients to the appropriate program, and then you apply for them.
Individual application applies to programs I., III., IV., V., VI. and VII., the Driving School contacts clients regarding program II.
Retraining Program II — Practical driving
For Program II, the Examination Centre will assign you to a driving school for practical training, possibly to Jövő Autósiskola. If there is a justified reason, you may request a transfer; this must be requested through the Examination Centre (KAV).
Program II (practical driving) concludes with a driving test. A person assigned to Program II pays at the KAV the compulsory minimum number of lessons (7 ×50 minutes), the fee for the test lesson, and the driving test fee. The7 ×50‑minute lessons take place with the instructor and at the location designated by the driving school.
If you wish to purchase extra lessons (i.e., more than 8 lessons in total), the fee is HUF 16,000 per 50 minutes, which is paid directly to us, the driving school.
The fee for a re‑test is HUF 26,200, which must be paid to the KAV. A re‑test can only be requested after the re‑test fee has been paid and recorded. The KAV will send a separate notification e‑mail about this.
The fastest way to pay is in person at a KAV office by card. If you prefer to pay by bank transfer, you can use the following account number: 11711003-21463062-00000000 (OTP). Payment by postal giro (csekk) is also possible. In the latter two cases (bank transfer or postal giro) the funds arrive at the Examination Centre 3–4 working days later.

Detailed description of programs
I. Theoretical sessions to remedy and develop traffic knowledge, traffic rules and driving theory
Purpose
- These sessions aim to reduce gaps in participants’ traffic knowledge and develop safe driving attitudes. Instruction addresses the actions that led to the retraining obligation and the typical errors observed during the assessment paperwork and the driving test.
- Instructors analyse these errors from a traffic‑professional perspective (legal, driving‑theory, traffic ethics, vehicle‑technical aspects, etc.), provide the necessary related knowledge, and use pedagogical/andragogical methods to cultivate correct road behaviour and the desired traffic attitudes.
Duration and structure
- Total duration: 6 hours, delivered as two sessions on two consecutive days (2×3 hours).
Group size
- Maximum20 participants.
Assessment and exam
- Concludes with a computer‑based theoretical exam: 55 questions, 55 minutes, minimum passing score 65 points.
- Candidates may register for the theoretical exam in person at the Examination Centre (KAV) on the second day following the last session.
Retakes and fee
- There is no limit on the number of repeat/remedial attempts if the exam is not passed.
- Re‑exam fee (effective from March7,2025): HUF11,400.
Notes

- Make sure to bring any documents required by the Examination Centre when registering for the exam and to provide an electronic contact (e‑mail) so you receive scheduling and payment information.
II. Practical driving sessions to develop traffic competence, culture and behaviour, and to eliminate deficiencies and errors
Purpose
- Eliminate the deficiencies in driving skills, proficiency and competence identified during the assessment and those that arise during the exercises.
- Break down poor attitudes and habits.
Establish correct driving behaviour using pedagogical/andragogical methods.

Duration and structure
- Total duration:12 hours, delivered over two sessions on two days (2×6 hours).
