The Process of Obtaining your Driver's License

Steps of the process

Registration
- Fill out the application form
- Sign the adult training contract

Completion of the theoretical course
You can complete the theoretical course in two ways.
- Classroom course
- E-learning course

Medical fitness examination
- This will definitely be necessary to be able to register for the theory exam.
- However, it is not a prerequisite for starting the theoretical course.
- It is worth obtaining this during the theoretical course and either email it to us (info@jovoautosiskola.hu) or bring it in personally to the office.

Passing the theory exam
- We can register you for the theory exam after you have completed the theoretical course and have the medical fitness certificate.
- We will register you for the next available date unless we agree on another time that suits you better.
- The next exam date is usually 2–3 weeks away, because that is how dates are published in the central system.

Completion of practical training
- You may begin practical training after passing the theory exam.
- We will discuss the details of the practical lessons in person or by phone:
- whether you have a preferred instructor,
- which car you want to learn in (automatic, manual, or both),
- which days and times of day you are available to drive.
- After you are assigned to an instructor, download our app, where you can book lesson times.
- Call the instructor at the phone number provided in the email to arrange the details with them.
- Book lesson times in the app and patiently wait for your driving lessons to begin.

Passing the practical (traffic) exam
- To take the practical exam you must at least meet the legal minimum requirements (29 hours and 580 km); however, taking the national average into account, most students need 50-60 hours to pass the practical exam.
- When your instructor judges that you are ready for the road test, we will book the exam date for you.
- You also have the option of taking a mock exam, where you can try the exam situation without stress to better prepare for the real test.

First aid course (optional)
- The first aid exam does not require attending a course, although we highly recommend it.
- We don’t provide a first aid course in English, but there’s an organization where our previous students have already gone to. You can read more about it here.

Passing the first aid exam
- The first aid exam is required to receive your driver’s license. You can register for it on the Hungarian Red Cross website.
- You may take the first aid exam at any time during the license acquisition process, even after the practical exam.

Visit to the document office (Okmányiroda)
- Once you have completed all items on the list above, visit a document office (okmányiroda) to apply for your driver’s license!
- You can also request automatic document issuance through the government customer portal (Ügyfélkapu). For that, the system must contain a passport-style photo no older than two years and the medical fitness certificate.
- Items you should definitely bring for in-person administration:
- identity card and address card
- medical fitness examination result
- proof of passing the first aid exam
